L.A. Clippers Introduce Mascot, Chuck

WHO SURPRISED 20,000 FANS WITH CHUCK TAYLOR ALL STAR SNEAKERS? MEET CHUCK, THE LA CLIPPERS MASCOT!

February 29, 2016 – LOS ANGELES, CA – Tonight’s star: Chuck. Tomorrow’s must-have: Red Chucks. The L.A. Clippers introduced their new mascot Chuck, a California Condor who personifies the passion and “be relentless” drive of team owner Steve Ballmer.

In addition to owning the NBA’s largest wingspan and flying up to speeds of 55mph (source: Chuck), Chuck knows how to electrify Clipper Nation. During a spectacular half-time debut featuring a tumbling display worthy of a world-class gymnogyps, Chuck also convinced Steve to throw down a dunk in front of a sold-out STAPLES Center. At Steve’s insistence, with dunk comes chucks, and the bird stuck true to his word, giving every fan in attendance a voucher for a pair of red high-top Chuck Taylor All Star sneakers.

Steve: “Chuck is my wingman, and I am PUMPED that he is officially part of Clipper Nation! Like me, Chuck loves the Clippers, and I want Clipper Nation to follow Chuck, wear shoes like Chuck, and cheer like crazy, JUST LIKE CHUCK!”

Each ticket-holding fan who received a voucher at STAPLES Center on February 29 can redeem their game-issued voucher for a single pair of red high-top Chuck Taylor All Star sneakers at www.clippers.com/CHUCK. To celebrate Chuck’s home area code and jersey number (213), fans also have an opportunity to earn one of 213 pairs of red high-top Chuck Taylor All Star sneakers by following Chuck on Twitter and Instagram, or ‘liking’ his page on Facebook.

ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA CONDOR

Ranks as the largest North American land bird with a 9’8″ wingspan, the widest of any continental bird

Travels in excess of 160 miles during a single flight

Flies up to speeds of 56 mph and as high as 15,100 feet

When in flight, the movements of the condor are remarkably graceful. Condors flap their wings when taking off from the ground, but after attaining a moderate elevation they largely glide, sometimes going for miles without a single flap of their wings.

The California Condor became extinct in the wild in 1987 (all remaining wild individuals were captured). The species has since been successfully reintroduced to the coastal mountains of central and southern California, and northern Baja California, but is still listed as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

ABOUT THE L.A. CLIPPERS

The L.A. Clippers play in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Clippers have won two division titles (2013, 2014) and are coached by Doc Rivers. Under the vision of owner Steve Ballmer, the Clippers have emerged as one of the most innovative franchises and business partners in basketball. The Clippers are in the midst of a 220-plus game sell-out streak and offer a variety of ticketing solutions for fans, including big game plans, weekend packages and single-game tickets. Tickets for home games at STAPLES Center can be purchased at www.clippers.com/tickets.

In addition to on-court success, the Clippers are committed to making a difference in Southern California through numerous community programs and the L.A. Clippers Foundation. On September 11, 2015, the Clippers Foundation made a historic three-year, $3 million commitment to City Year Los Angeles, providing City Year the capacity to improve the lives and graduation rates of students in five of L.A.’s highest need elementary schools. This is the largest donation City Year has received from the private sector, and is also the single largest cash gift in the history of the L.A. Clippers.
