Kelly Oubre: Goes off for 24 points in double OT win

Wizards coach Scott Brooks suggested prior to the season that Oubre would have an opportunity to battle Otto Porter for the starting small forward gig, and while it was generally believed that the second-year player was a long shot to claim that role, he’s probably closed the gap through his first two performances in the preseason. In addition to leading the Wizards in scoring Thursday in an efficient manner, Oubre put up 16 points in the team’s exhibition opener Tuesday against the Heat. Meanwhile, Porter’s production has been rather muted through two games, with the 23-year-old contributing a combined 16 points and nine rebounds over 45 total minutes. We’ll wait and see if Oubre is able to earn a look in the starting lineup during the preseason games to come, but if nothing else, he’s made a compelling case to receive elevated minutes off the bench once the regular season begins.
