Kay Felder: Hopeful to be available for weekend

Felder remains under the concussion protocol and wasn’t available for the Cavs’ season-opening win Tuesday against the Knicks, resulting in wing player Iman Shumpert moving over to point guard and serving as Kyrie Irving’s main backup. However, Shumpert was forced to exit the contest in the third quarter after suffering a concussion of his own, leaving the team starved for depth at the position beyond Irving. While Shumpert is uncertain to be available for the team’s next two games and possibly beyond, Felder seems to be further along in his recovery. The Cavs will have to wait and see if Felder passes his remaining tests within the next couple of days before clearing him, but the rookie’s seemingly incoming return would help assuage some of coach Tyronn Lue’s concern about who may run the offense when Irving hits the bench.
