The Orlando Magic defeated the Brooklyn Nets, 86-80, in the Las Vegas Summer League at Cox Pavilion on Friday.
While there were only two ties and one lead change in this game, it was an extremely competitive matchup. In fact, neither club led by more than 12 points, as it was within a single-digit margin for all but a couple minutes. The second quarter is what decided the game for Orlando, as they outscored Brooklyn, 22-10, leading for the entirety of the second half. Turnovers really killed Brooklyn, as they committed 16 of them while forcing just 11 from Orlando. The Magic ended up hitting 45 percent of their shots while holding the Nets to just 38 percent from the field.
The Nets (0-1) best player came off the bench, as Shawn Dawson led the team with 20 points and six rebounds in just 18 minutes of action. Tyler Davis led the starters with 13 points and three rebounds. Milton Doyle started at point guard and provided nine points, six rebounds and three assists.
The Magic (1-0) were led by Jonathan Isaac, as he tallied 20 points and seven rebounds. Troy Caupain matched those 20 points, providing three rebounds and two assists to lead the bench. Mohamed Bamba totaled 11 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Isaiah Briscoe accrued 16 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals
On deck for Brooklyn is a matchup versus the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday. As for Orlando, they face the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday for their next fixture.
