Young was on the roster bubble heading into the regular season, and though he ultimately beat out fellow former first-round pick R.J. Hunter for the 15th spot, he still wasn’t viewed as a key part of the Celtics’ long-term plans. That was reflected in the team’s decision not to exercise his fourth-year option, thereby making him an unrestricted free agent next summer.
