Thomas initially injured his hip during the Celtics’ March 15 tilt against the
Timberwolves, which forced him to miss the following two games. He then further
aggravated the injury during Game 6 of the team’s series against the Wizards.
While the injury seemingly wasn’t serious enough to put him on the injury report
or limit him in any of the following games, Thomas re-aggravated it during Game
2 against the Cavaliers. This third aggravation of the injury is apparently
serious, causing him to miss the remainder of the playoffs. As a result of his
absence, Marcus Smart will likely start at the point guard slot, with Terry
Rozier also probably seeing a significant bump in minutes. Avery Bradley could
also get run at the point.
