Hollis Thompson: Returns Friday to play 23 minutes

It had been reported Wednesday that the 76ers planned to keep Thompson out Friday while he fought an upper-respiratory infection, but the swingman must have demonstrated enough progress in his recovery prior to game time in order to receive the green light to play. The 76ers ended up losing Robert Covington early in Friday’s contest due to a right ankle sprain, but it’s generally expected that he’ll be able to return in time for the Oct. 26 season opener against the Thunder. Assuming that’s the case, Thompson will open the campaign as one of the 76ers’ top bench options on the wing.
