The Atlanta Hawks defeated the Brooklyn Nets, 110-105, at Phillips Arena on
Wednesday evening. The Nets (11-52) may sport the ugliest record in the NBA, but
their play continues to embody the scrappiness and never-say-die underdog
attitude of the borough they call home. Brooklyn gave yet another quality team
in the Hawks (35-29) all they could handle Wednesday, with Atlanta finally
putting the game away on a pair of Dennis Schroder free throws with two seconds
remaining. The Nets rather amazingly overcome 22 turnovers by a solid 46.3
percent from the floor and 80 percent from the free-throw line, and getting a
total of 55 points from a very productive second unit. Sean Kilpatrick was one
of those reserves with the hot hand, as he led the Nets with 27 points, four
rebounds, one assist and one steal. Brook Lopez was next with 18 points, six
rebounds, three assists, five blocks and one steal. Jeremy Lin produced his best
game since returning from a prolonged absence with a hamstring ailment,
supplying 16 points, eight assists, three rebounds and one steal. Trevor Booker
registered 12 points, eight boards, three assists, one steal and one block in 27
minutes off the bench. Schroder scored a game-high 31 points that he
supplemented with five assists, two rebounds and three steals. Paul Millsap
tallied 24 points, four rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Tim Hardaway,
Jr. continued his solid stretch of play on the second unit, posting a
bench-leading 16 points that he supplemented with six boards and two steals.
Dwight Howard provided one of his trademark double-doubles, collecting 11
points, 14 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal. Ersan Ilyasova
supplied 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in 26 minutes
off the bench. Thabo Sefolosha submitted a full line of nine points, eight
rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block. The Nets remain on the road
and head to the Lone Star State to do battle with the Dallas Mavericks on Friday
night, while the Hawks remain home and await the Toronto Raptors on Friday
evening as well.
