Hawks hold off Hornets to win 94-92 Sunday

In their second matchup in three days with the Charlotte Hornets (0-3), the Atlanta Hawks (3-1) again prevailed, winning 94-92 on Sunday.

The visiting Hawks received balanced scoring from their starting lineup to guide them to the win column. Point guard Jeff Teague netted 18 points, center Al Horford notched 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and forward Paul Millsap scored 13 points to go along with six boards and six assists.
The recent play of Kent Bazemore, who has replaced Thabo Sefolosha as the team’s starting shooting guard, has been a key reason behind the Hawks’ success against the Hornets. In those two games, Bazemore has recorded 39 points, including 20 on Sunday. He also made his presence felt on the defensive end, recording three steals and a blocked shot.

Though their attempt to claim their first win fell just short, the Hornets were able to set a club record for three-point attempts with 37 in the contest. However, they’re still struggling to find efficiency, as the team shot just 37.2 percent from the field Sunday. Kemba Walker finished as the team’s leading scorer with 17 points, while Nicolas Batum added 16 points, eight assists, five rebounds, and a pair of blocks and steals. Al Jefferson notched another double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.

The Hawks will head to Miami on Tuesday for their next game, while Charlotte hosts the Bulls at home on the same night.
