The Atlanta Hawks improved to 2-0 in the Las Vegas Summer League after defeating the Washington Wizards, 88-80, on Sunday.
The Hawks maintained control throughout the game, holding an 18-point lead at one point. Atlanta shot 50.8 percent from the floor and an impressive 51.9 percent from behind the arc, compared to the Wizards’ substandard marks of 41.8 percent from the field and 20.8 percent of three-point range.
The Hawks were led by Bryce Cotton, who scored a game-high 21 points (7-11 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 4-5 FT), to go along with three rebounds and an assist in just over 16 minutes off the bench. First-round pick DeAndre Bembry added seven points (3-8 FG, 1-2 3Pt), seven assists, six rebounds and a steal in 26 minutes.
The Wizards suffered their first loss in Vegas (1-1), but had solid performances from several young up-and-comers. Kelly Oubre tied Cotton’s mark with 21 points (7-15 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 6-7 FT), while adding two assists, one rebound, and two steals in just under 29 minutes. Michael Eric, a non-roster forward, added 20 points (6-12 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 4-4 FT), eight rebounds, two steals and a block 24 minutes.
Both teams will continue play in Las Vegas and shift their focus to the Nets. The Hawks take on the Nets on Monday, while the Wizards get a day off before they play Brooklyn on Tuesday.
