The Atlanta Hawks defeated the Toronto Raptors, 105-99, at Philips Arena on
Friday. This was one of the closest games of the season, as neither team was
able to grab a lead larger than eight points. In addition, there were 17 ties
and 15 lead changes, as this game came down to the wire. Atlanta’s offense was
extremely efficient, as they shot 52 percent from the field and 36 percent from
three-point range. The Raptors weren’t quite as fortunate, as they hit just 40
percent from the field and 16 percent from long distance. Defensive rebounding
was a huge key as well, with Atlanta winning that battle, 37-30. The Raptors
(38-27) battled all game long, but they didn’t have enough in the arsenal to
pull out a tough road win. DeMar DeRozan did all he could for Toronto, as he led
the team with 28 points, eight rebounds and six assists, but shot just 12-of-30
from the field. Serge Ibaka finished with 18 points, three rebounds and two
assists before fouling out. Cory Joseph started for Kyle Lowry and provided 15
points, eight assists and four steals. Jonas Valanciunas and DeMarre Carroll
combined for 22 points, 19 rebounds, six steals and four blocks in a defensive
showcase. On deck for Toronto is a road matchup with the Miami Heat on Saturday.
The Hawks (36-29) have struggled recently, but a tight win like this is just
what they need to get some momentum going. Dennis Schroeder led the team with 26
points, six rebounds and five assists. Paul Millsap contributed 21 points, six
rebounds and four assists. Dwight Howard totaled 16 points, 10 rebounds and two
blocks on 6-of-9 shooting. Tim Hardaway Jr. got the start and collected 20
points, two rebounds, six assists and two steals. Atlanta’s next matchup is
tough, as they play the Memphis Grizzlies on the road on Saturday.
