The Atlanta Hawks defeated the host Memphis Grizzlies, 107-90, at FedEx Forum on
Saturday. It’s rare to see Memphis dominated at home so badly, but that’s just
how things have been going for the Grizzlies over recent weeks. This one was
over early, as Atlanta took an 18-point lead after the first quarter and led by
double-digits for the entirety of the second half. It ended up being a
wire-to-wire win for the Hawks as well. Defense was key for Atlanta, as they
held Memphis to 38 percent from the field and 17 percent shooting from
three-point range. The Hawks also took care of the defensive rebounding, winning
that battle, 40-28. The Hawks (37-29) have now won three-straight, as this marks
one of their best victories of the season. Paul Millsap collected 16 points, 11
rebounds and six assists. Dennis Schroeder was just as good, accumulating 16
points, seven rebounds, eight assists and three steals. Taurean Prince was a
huge spark off the bench, providing 17 points, three rebounds, two assists and
two steals on 5-of-6 shooting. Atlanta will be in action again on Monday in a
road matchup versus the San Antonio Spurs. The Grizzlies (36-30) are really
struggling right now, as this marks their fifth-straight loss. Mike Conley
accrued 16 points, five assists and five steals as one of the only effective
players for Memphis. JaMychal Green started and led the team by totaling 20
points and 11 rebounds. Marc Gasol could only muster up eight points, six
rebounds and two assists. The Grizzlies will look to get out of this slide on
Monday in a home matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks.
