Whiteside sustained the injury midway through the Heat’s second-round series against Toronto and missed the final four games. He still remains without a firm timetable, but with the season now over, he won’t face any pressure to return before a given date. Avoiding surgery is certainly a benefit, though, as Whiteside, an unrestricted free agent, enters the offseason seeking his first major NBA payday.
