With traditional back-to-the-basket centers in the mold of Monroe no longer
possessing as much market value as they did a few seasons ago, it was unlikely
that the 27-year-old would have landed a larger annual salary had he decided to
become a free agent. Since Monroe’s contract set to expire after this season,
the Bucks could finally have better luck trying to trade him away in the coming
months, but while he remains with the team, he’ll likely serve as a go-to
scoring option for the second unit. Monroe averaged 11.7 points, 6.6 boards, 2.3
assists and 1.1 steals in 22.5 minutes per game in 2015-16.
