Sixers Lose Tight Affair

Down by one point with less than 10 seconds left, T.J. McConnell’s potential game-winner in traffic fell short, allowing Brooklyn to corral the rebound, which led to two game-sealing free-throws.

Five Sixers (Brandon Paul, Maodo Lo, James Webb III, Richaun Holmes and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot) finished the game with double-digit points.

Weaving a WebbBoise State product James Webb III was the Sixers’ most proficient shooter against the Nets. Totaling 21:24 minutes, Webb finished the game with 13 points. Webb shot 5 for 7 from the field, and an effective 3 for 4 from beyond the arc.

After going scoreless in the Sixers’ first three Las Vegas league games, Webb has averaged 13.5 points over Philadelphia’s past two contests.

Holmes and McConnell Make it HappenOnce again, T.J. McConnell had a good all-around night on the court. The second-year point guard manned the primary ball-handling duties, and he finished the game with six points, eight assists and two rebounds.

McConnell did a nice job running the offense; he saw the floor very well, and was able to locate his teammates with ease.

Holmes, who has enjoyed a nice summer league thus far, finished the contest with 12 points (4 for 4 from the field, 4 for 7 from the free-throw line).

In addition to contributing as a scorer, Holmes provided spark as both a rebounder and as a defender. Holmes battled hard on the glass, hauling in a team-high eight rebounds, including two offensive boards. The Bowling Green product also swatted one shot, and recorded two steals.

Sixer of the Game: Brandon PaulPaul followed up his 20-point performance against the NBA D-League Select squad by manufacturing a team-high 18 points against the Nets. Paul shot 30 percent from the field, and knocked down four of his five free-throw attempts.

Paul — whose near 30 minutes of play led all Sixers — was tenacious and fearless when attacking the basket, putting his body on the line more than once.

Paul wasn’t only a factor as a scorer, though. The 6’4″ tall guard used his instincts to nab six steals, which led all players.

Next Up:After being knocked out of the tournament, the Sixers conclude the 2016 summer league slate against the Miami Heat in the consolation round on Friday. The game tips off at 8:30 (ET).
