Simmons Does a Little of Everything
While Ben Simmons didn’t enjoy a scoring outburst like he did against Chicago, the rookie forward put together another promising outing.
Simmons ended the game with eight points, eight rebounds, six assists (including this sweet dish) and one steal. In his fifth summer league game, Simmons once again received the lion’s share of the ball-handling duties on offense.
Experienced Sixers Contribute
After Nik Stauskas and Jerami Grant both had effective outings against Chicago (combining for 24 points), the duo of Richaun Holmes and T.J. McConnell provided key contributions against Golden State. Holmes and McConnell scored 11 points apiece, and their efforts helped keep Philadelphia within striking distance.
Holmes finished the contest shooting 4-for-7 from the field, and he also grabbed eight rebounds (four offensive). Holmes, who finished the 2015-16 with 40 blocks in 51 games, swatted three shots against the Warriors to bring his summer league total to 16.
In addition to his 11 points, McConnell finished the game with four assists, six rebounds and three steals. In his second year as a pro, McConnell appears immensely more comfortable operating in Philadelphia’s offense.
Sixer of the Game: Christian Wood
Playing in the same venue where he shined for the UNLV Rebels, Christian Wood continued his impressive summer league play.
Wood — who has only failed to register double-digit points in one summer league game thus far — finished the game with 22 points, while shooting an efficient 8-for-12 from the field. Wood also added a pair of three-pointers (2-for-5 from beyond the arc), as well as two assists and five rebounds.
On defense, Wood provided energy and aggressiveness, routinely sticking with his assignment over the course of the game. Wood wound up blocking two shots.
His continued development as an all-around player was on full display, and he got the upper hand over fellow ex-UNLV Rebel Patrick McCaw (11 points, 5-for-8 from the field).
Quote of the Day: Ben Simmons
“We’ve just gotta come together and focus. We’re ready to play, I think everyone’s ready to get to the tournament and play…That’s what we’re here for; to play in the tournament.”
