Sixers Shine in Tournament Play
Playing without No. 1 overall pick Ben Simmons, and summer-league phenom Christian Wood, the 76ers still put up over 100 points against the NBA D-League Select team. The 108-point total was the most the Sixers have scored in summer league play this year, as well as the most points scored in Samsung NBA Summer League play.
Five Sixers (Maodo Lo, Shawn Long, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, James Webb III, Brandon Paul) finished in double-digit scoring.
As a whole, the Sixers maneuvered as a well-oiled machine for the majority of the night, finishing with more steals (16 to 7), assists (25 to 7), blocks (8 to 3), as well as seven fewer turnovers (16 to 23) than the D-League Selects.
Philadelphia Lights it UpThe 76ers had a remarkable offensive night, as the team finished the game shooting .539 percent from the field. Only one member of the team shot under 40 percent. Philadelphia also shot an impressive .433 percent from three-point range.
Philadelphia’s effective night shooting the ball was a main catalyst for the team’s triple-digit total.
TLC Makes His Presence FeltAfter a mostly quiet string of summer league games, 24th overall pick Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot had his most effective game as a pro. TLC finished the game with 15 points, while shooting 6-for-12 from the field, and 2-for-6 from beyond the arc.
TLC’s shooting percentage was vastly improved, as he shot .364 percent from the field during the Sixers’ first three Las Vegas league games.
In addition to his contributions as a scorer, “The French Touch” recorded two assists, two rebounds and one blocked shot.
Sixer of the Game: Shawn LongAfter showing flashes of his offensive ability in the games leading up to Wednesday, Shawn Long erupted against the NBA D-League Select team.
Long finished the game with 21 points (in only 16:30 minutes of play), which led all scorers. Long was nearly perfect from the field, only misfiring on one of his nine attempts. In addition to shooting .889 percent from the field, Long was a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, and he also sank both of his free-throws.
Long also added one assist, five rebounds, two blocks and one steal, rounding out his solid all-around night. Long — who prior to Wednesday’s game averaged five points per game in the entire summer league — made the most of his opportunity to shine in the first round of tournament play.
Next Up:The 76ers will square off against the Brooklyn Nets in the second round of the 24-team tournament. The game tips off at 6:30 p.m. (Eastern) on Thursday.
