The Warriors visit Phoenix for their final game before NBA All-Star Weekend.
ONE MORE BEFORE THE BREAK Playing the back end of a back-to-back, the Warriors visit the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday in their final game before the NBA All-Star Break. The Dubs have gone 11-1 when playing on consecutive days this season, and they’ll look to better that mark after Tuesday’s 123-110 over the Houston Rockets. This will be the third of this season’s four head-to-head matchups between the two teams, and the first two each featured a 40-plus point game from one of the Splash Brothers. Wednesday’s showdown will tip off at 6 p.m. in the desert and fans can watch the action on CSN Bay Area (live stream on CSN Live Extra) or listen to the call on KNBR 680 and the Warriors Mobile App.
LAST TIME OUT The Warriors picked up their 10th straight win on Tuesday, taking down the Houston Rockets 123-110 in the Dubs’ final home game before NBA All-Star Weekend. The game had several heroes for the Dubs: there was Stephen Curry going bananas in the first quarter, Andrew Bogut dominating on defense, a fourth-quarter scoring barrage by Harrison Barnes, timely 3-point shooting from Andre Iguodala and big bench minutes from Marreese Speights. Full Game Recap
GSW: James Michael McAdoo (sprained toe, left foot) is doubtful. Festus Ezeli (sore left knee) is out. Kevon Looney is on D-League assignment. Team Notes
PHX: Brandon Knight (left adductor strain), Ronnie Price (right great toe surgery), Eric Bledsoe (torn meniscus in left knee) and T.J. Warren (right foot fracture) are out. Team Notes
MORE MINUTES FOR MO BUCKETS Playing time for Marreese Speights has been fairly inconsistent this season, but the smooth-shooting big man has found a groove and is the most likely of candidates to see a bump in minutes now that Festus Ezeli will be for at least a month following his knee surgery. Speights has put up 15 points in each of the last two games, and he has done so in a combined 29 minutes. This recent Speights surge gives the Warriors another dangerous scoring weapon off the bench, as Speights joins Leandro Barbosa, Shaun Livingston and Andre Iguodala in what is one of the league’s top bench units.
PHOENIX SCOUTING REPORT It has been a trying season in Phoenix, to say the least. The Suns have lost eight straight games and 14 of their last 15, and they recently inserted Earl Watson – in his first season as a Phoenix assistant – as interim head coach. The Suns have the league’s second worst scoring defense, and the Warriors have taken advantage of that in each of the first two head-to-head meetings between the two clubs, combining for 263 points in a pair of one-sided wins. To make matters worse, the Suns are without three of their top four scorers, but on the plus side Markieff Morris has stepped up in recent games. Among Suns players who are expected to play on Wednesday, Morris leads the team with 11.4 points per game, and the Suns will rely on him and a balanced 3-point attack – Phoenix ranks fourth in the NBA in 3-point shooting at 36.5 percent – as they look to upset the defending champs.
