Game Preview: Warriors at Heat – 2/24/16

The Warriors look to keep their momentum rolling as they continue their road trip on Wednesday in Miami.

TAKING TALENTS TO SOUTH BEACH A pair of division leaders meet in South Beach as the Warriors resume their road trip on Wednesday against the Miami Heat. The Dubs will be looking to complete the season sweep of Miami after picking up a 111-103 victory in their first meeting with the Heat last month at Oracle Arena. Wednesday’s tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m. and fans will be able to catch the action on CSN Bay Area (live stream on CSN Live Extra) or listen to the call on KNBR 680 and the Warriors Mobile App.

LAST TIME OUT The Warriors saw a 23-point advantage turn into a four-point deficit in the fourth quarter, but timely scoring from the Splash Brothers and Andrew Bogut’s defensive dominance helped the Dubs regain control in Monday’s 102-92 win in Atlanta. With the win, the Warriors improved to 50-5 on the season and became the fastest team in NBA history to reach 50 wins.

GSW: James Michael McAdoo (sprained toe, left foot) is questionable. Festus Ezeli (left knee surgery) is out. Team Notes

MIA: Luol Deng (dislocated finger) is probable. Beno Udrih (right foot) is questionable. Chris Bosh and Tyler Johnson (left shoulder surgery) are out. Team Notes

WELCOME ANDERSON VAREJAO The Warriors didn’t make a move at the trade deadline but Monday’s signing of veteran center Anderson Varejao could accomplish the same purpose. Before being part of a three-team trade last Thurday, Varejao had played his entire NBA career (12 seasons) with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Trail Blazers released Varejao after the trade in an effort to clear up salary cap space, opening the door for the Warriors to sign him. The Brazilian center certainly had other suitors, but he elected to come to the Bay’s team. How he fits in with the club is to be determined, but Varejao would seem to be a welcome addition to give the team some depth at center now that Festus Ezeli is sidelined for at least one more month as he recovers from left knee surgery.

MIAMI SCOUTING REPORT The Heat have been dealing with adversity all season and the team is currently thriving. Currently in first place in the Southeast Division, Miami is undefeated since the All-Star break, and that’s with leading scorer Chris Bosh missing the last two weeks with an undisclosed health condition and Assistant Coach Keith Smart battling a rare form of skin cancer. Dwyane Wade missed the first two games after the All-Star break but returned for Monday’s overtime win over the Pacers. Miami is generally one of the slowest-paced teams in the league but have picked up the tempo in the absence of some of their veteran stars. Goran Dragic, Luol Deng and Josh McRoberts have all had big games lately, but Miami’s trues calling card is on defense. The Heat yield 96.5 points per game, second only to the San Antonio Spurs, and they’ll look to slow down a Warriors offense that leads the league in scoring (115.0 points) and has dished out at least 30 assists in two straight games.
