The New Orleans Pelicans look for their first win of the season as they host the Milwaukee Bucks at Smoothie King Center on Tuesday night.
The Pelicans (0-3) are coming off a loss in San Antonio, where they were humbled by the Spurs. The Spurs not only contained Anthony Davis but totally limited New Orleans’ offense, holding it to 4-of-22 shooting from deep, 37 percent shooting from the field and only 14 assists. Davis and E’Twaun Moore led the Pelicans in scoring with 18 points each. Tim Frazier dished seven assists, while rookie Buddy Hield added eight points, five rebounds and one block.
Davis said after the game that he and his guys need to work on their communication. Although Davis has had some great games already, the Pelicans have quite a few new faces and need to grow into a cohesive unit. They will be looking to come together against the Bucks, who will be a tough opponent but certainly less intimidating than their last two, the Warriors and Spurs.
Milwaukee (1-2) has been up and down so far, showing no real consistency. Coach Kidd is surely hoping his guys can find some kind of rhythm soon, otherwise questions may start to arise regarding his leadership. They have lost already to Charlotte and Detroit, two mid-tier Eastern teams, and while they beat Brooklyn, will need to ensure that they are winning against less-than-elite teams.
The Bucks have their work cut out for them as they head into Smoothie King Center to challenge a Pelicans team that will be desperately scrapping to earn its first win. The Bucks had a lot of trouble last game with Andre Drummond, who ate them up down low by scoring 20 points and hauling in 23 rebounds. The Bucks were out-rebounded by 18 in the game and gave up 16 offensive rebounds. They will have to face another elite big man in Anthony Davis and cannot expect too much success without keeping him under control.
