Philadelphia 76ers vs Golden State Warriors: July 12, 8:30 p.m. (ET)
How to Watch: The Comcast Network, NBATV
Simmons Takes Aim
In Philadelphia’s loss to the Chicago Bulls, Ben Simmons took 11 jump shots, which was by far the most he had attempted as a pro. The No. 1 overall pick finished the game with 18 points, while shooting 7-for-13 from the field.
Simmons’ efforts in Philadelphia’s second Vegas summer league game demonstrated that the 19-year-old forward is still refining his game; as he continues to develop his stroke, his shot selection will be something to watch for the rest of the summer league.
Quick Hits From Sunday
Facing the Best
As was the case when the Sixers played the San Antonio Spurs in the Utah league, Philadelphia will once again be competing against one of the NBA’s premier teams.
Of course, Golden State compiled the best regular-season record of all-time last year, racking up 73 wins. Since the 2014-15 season, the Warriors have won 140 games, and have only lost 24.
Key Matchup to Watch: Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot vs Patrick McCaw
Patrick McCaw, the 38th overall pick in June’s draft, impressed in Golden State’s first game in the Las Vegas league. The UNLV product scored 14 points (6-for-13 from the field), recorded two assists and grabbed two rebounds. The 6’7″ tall guard followed that up with a 13-point performance in the Warriors’ second game against the Lakers.
McCaw will likely be seeing a good amount of Philadelphia’s rookie wing Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot. The competition between the two rookie wing players will certainly be something to pay attention to.
Quote of the Day: Las Vegas summer league head coach Lloyd Pierce on Simmons’ development
“Obviously, we want to see him be a complete player, scoring, passing and defending. We’re seeing a little bit each time he steps on the court.”
