How to Watch: Comcast Network, ESPN 2
Eye of the Tiger
While he has yet to record more than 10 points in summer league play, Ben Simmons’ all-around skill set continues to shine this summer league.
Against the Lakers, he once again came close to earning a triple-double, scoring eight points, recording eight assists and collecting 10 rebounds. He outperformed the No. 2 overall pick Brandon Ingram, who shot 3-for-12 from the field (0-3 from three-point range), and only scored seven points in Saturday night’s showdown.
Simmons also led the Sixers in playing time, remaining on the court for a combined 30 minutes and 41 seconds.
He appears to be getting more comfortable in each game he plays, locating his teammates and running the floor with confidence.
Quick Hits from Saturday
The near 16,000 fans in attendance at the Thomas and Mack Center, as well as the ones watching at home, were treated to a thrilling game with a dramatic finish.
Philadelphia was unable to hang on to a late lead, as D’Angelo Russell (22 points) buried a game-winning three-pointer as time expired to lift the Lakers over the 76ers
Key Matchup to Watch
Against the Bulls, the aforementioned Jerami will be facing his brother, Jerian Grant. Jerian, who played his rookie season with the New York Knicks, was jettisoned from New York to Chicago in the Derrick Rose trade in late June.
Jerian appeared in 76 games for the Knicks, starting six. Unlike his small forward older brother, Jerian (6’4″ tall) plays point guard. He finished his rookie campaign averaging 5.6 points per game, while shooting .394 from the field.
As is the case with a majority of sibling rivalries, Jerami and Jerian will likely be playing with some extra motivation when their two respective teams square off Sunday.
