The host Philadelphia 76ers take on the San Antonio Spurs at Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday.
The San Antonio Spurs (39-12) saw a three-game win streak come to a halt on Monday night, falling on the road to the Memphis Grizzlies, 89-74. The defeat marked the lowest offensive output for the Spurs this season, and with only 14 points to his credit, David Lee led the team in scoring off the bench, adding three rebounds on a 6-of-6 shooting night from field goal range. LaMarcus Aldridge contributed a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 boards, going only 4-of-19 from the paint in the process. Aldridge’s night was indicative of the entire roster’s shooting woes, as they went a collective 36.6 percent from mid-range and 21.1 percent from beyond the arc. Danny Green had 12 points, eight rebounds and a pair of assists, adding two triples, while Manu Ginobili came off the bench to drop 12 points and dole out three assists. Kawhi Leonard sat out the game with a thigh contusion, and is listed as day-to-day heading into Wednesday’s contest. San Antonio remains in second place in the Western Conference, four games behind the first place Golden State Warriors.
The Philadelphia 76ers (18-33) seem to have come back down to Earth following a head-turning 10-5 record in January, dropping four straight games, all on the road. The latest defeat came on Monday night in Detroit, as they fell to the Pistons, 113-96. Jahlil Okafor put up a team-best 16 points and four rebounds amidst lingering trade rumors, going 7-of-11 from the paint and 2-of-7 from the foul line. Robert Covington logged 11 points, four rebounds and three steals, shooting 5-of-7 from the charity stripe, while Dario Saric emerged off the bench to offer up 13 points, six rebounds and four assists. Joel Embiid skipped his sixth straight game with a left knee contusion, and is listed as day-to-day ahead of Wednesday’s home game. Philadelphia had a miserable night from downtown, going a collective 5-of-28, and despite their recent upturn, still own the fourth-worst offense in the NBA, averaging 100.4 points per game.
