Wayne Ellington sat down with HEAT.com after a recent practice to discuss his off-court interests and other things people may not know about him.
Who was your favorite player growing up?
Kobe, MJ and AI.
What is a moment in your life that shaped you?
Probably just recently losing my father. a better man and living life to the fullest.
What's your most memorable high school or AAU game?
I had some memorable AAU games and high school games. Me and my man Gerald Henderson, who plays for the Sixers now, we played on the same teams in both AAU and high school. We had some epic moments. I think there was a game where we both had like 45 or something like that each. It was like 2005, 2006.
What's your favorite TV Show or Movie?
My favorite movie, I'd have to go with “He Got Game.” My favorite TV show right now is probably “Power.”
What would you be if you weren't a basketball player?
If I wasn't a basketball player, I think I would be a lawyer.
Who are the top three musicians in your rotation?
Right now I got Jay-Z. He's always in the top three. I got Meek Mill. Biggie is always in my top three also.
Whose playing style do you most model your game after?
Rip Hamilton, but from the three.
What is one thing you can't live without?
My family.
What is your favorite type of food?
I like Italian food.
What is your favorite workout/drill?
I've always liked to do shooting drills, of course.
What was your favorite subject in school?
Math.
What is your favorite sport outside of basketball?
Outside of basketball, it'll have to be football. Eagles fan.
What was your most memorable experience on the court as a professional basketball player?
Most memorable as a pro is probably playing on the court with Kobe. First time I played on the court with Kobe.
What would you like to do after your playing career is over?
I'll be a business man. I like real estate just business ventures.
What was the first thing you bought once you received your first NBA check?
I don't even remember. It wasn't anything big, though. I think I bought my mom a car. It was a Lexus.
What was your most unusual experience with a fan?
I had a fan ask me to sign their forehead before. I didn't do it.
What was your 'Welcome to the NBA' moment?
Probably playing on the court with Kobe.
Who are two historical figures you'd like to have lunch with?
I would love to have lunch with Martin Luther King Jr. Malcolm X.
What is your favorite car that you've ever owned?
My favorite car I've ever owned was a Range Rover.
What's your favorite outdoor activity?
I like to fish.
