Former Cowboy Nance Gets Wyoming Welcome in Colorado

The two-hour drive from Laramie, Wyo., to Denver didn’t deter hundreds of University of Wyoming fans from pouring into Pepsi Center in order to cheer on favorite son Larry Nance Jr.

The first Cowboy in the NBA since 2012, Nance greeted his fans before the Lakers’ win over the Nuggets on Saturday. He did everything from signing autographs to holding a baby.

It’s no surprise that Wyoming fans love them some Larry. The 27th overall draft pick led the Cowboys to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 13 years last spring. He was also named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year and twice selected to the All-MWC First Team.

Spurred on by his fans, Nance put on a show that featured two highlight dunks and an alley-oop layup. And, of course, the Cowboy faithful went wild.

“I felt like I was back playing in the Arena-Auditorium in Wyoming,” Nance said. “It was really cool getting to hear the ‘Larry!’ chants, the fans screaming. It was awesome.”
