Bryn Forbes scored 31 points to lead the San Antonio Spurs to an 81-70 victory Wednesday against the Boston Celtics in the Utah Summer League at Huntsman Center.
The Spurs (1-1) were a three-man team as Forbes, who also had three assists and three steals, Davis Bertains and Jaron Blossomgame combined to shoot 55.5 percent (20 of 36) from the field while the rest of the squad struggled to shoot just 19.0 percent (8 for 42). Bertans contributed 14 points and four boards, and Blossomgame had eight points and four rebounds.
First-round pick Jayson Tatum was the bright spot for the Celtics (1-1), who shot 42.2 percent from the field and outrebounded San Antonio, 40-38. Tatum finished with 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting and 10 rebounds, two assists and a steal, looking every bit worth his draft status as he has been the team’s most impressive performer through two games.
Abdel Nader, who had 14 points, a rebound and a steal, was the only other Celtic in double figures. Croatian center Ante Zizic, a 2016 first-round pick who did not play in the NBA last season, posted six points, six rebounds, a steal and a block.
The Spurs play the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday afternoon, while the Celtics battle the Utah Jazz on Thursday evening.
