Dwight Powell: Not seeing minute increase with Nowitzki out

After re-signing with the Mavericks on a four-year, $37 million contract this offseason, Powell was expected to see an appreciable increase in playing time after averaging 14.4 minutes per game in 2015-16. Though opportunities for expanded run have been there with Dirk Nowitzki (illness) sidelined for the past two games, Powell hasn’t seen much of a boost, and is averaging a meager 16.3 minutes per contest on the season. Given Nowitzki’s age and starting center Andrew Bogut’s injury history, Powell should eventually see a more prominent role at some point this season, but for the time being, his value looks like it will be limited to the deepest of leagues.
