NEW YORK, May 21, 2017 – Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi has been suspended
one game without pay for hitting San Antonio Stars forward Dearica Hamby in the
back of the head with a forearm, it was announced today by Jay Parry, Chief
Operating Officer, WNBA.
The incident, for which Taurasi was assessed a technical foul, occurred with
4:09 remaining in the second quarter of the Mercury’s 78-72 victory over the
Stars on Friday, May 19 at AT&T Center. After further review, the league office
has rescinded the technical but upgraded the play to a Flagrant Foul 2.
Taurasi will serve her suspension on Tuesday, May 23 when the Mercury hosts the
New York Liberty at Talking Stick Resort Arena.
