Rose had been away from the Knicks for more than two weeks while he attended his civil trial in Los Angeles and will need to regain conditioning, but he’s expected to only need a few practices to get back up to full speed. While coach Jeff Hornacek could slightly limit Rose’s minutes in the opener, the point guard looks poised to reclaim a full-time role before long. The 28-year-old is entering a contract year and has plenty of incentive to play well, but after seeing his efficiency dip dramatically over the last three seasons, he no longer looks like a top-flight point guard.
