Russell’s otherwise productive rookie season was overshadowed by coach Byron Scott’s unwillingness to fully unleash him and his Snapchat controversy involving teammate Nick Young, but he looks bound to create headlines in 2016-17 for his success on the court. The 20-year-old has been the Lakers’ best player through three preseason games, averaging 19.3 points, 3.6 assists, 2.6 three-pointers, 2.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals in 27.0 minutes per game. He’ll likely see his playing time creep over the 30-minute mark during the regular season, which could put him on course to crack the 20-point-per-game barrier.
