Tyronn Lue wants to get Kevin Love going earlier in games Author: Jason Lloyd Publication: Akron Beacon Journal
CLEVELAND: From the time Tyronn Lue took over as head coach, one of his top priorities was finding ways to make Kevin Love more comfortable in the Cavs' system. To that end, Lue acknowledged after Love's historic night Wednesday that the first play call of every game this year is for Love to get a shot from the post.
It hasn't always worked out that way. In fact, Love has taken the first shot in only six of the first 13 games. But Lue listened to Love and is doing his best to get him going early. The fruits of that were on display with Love's 34-point first quarter Wednesday en route to his first 40-point game with the Cavaliers.
“I had a good rhythm, made my first couple shots,” Love said. “And it was on from there.” – CLICK HERE to read full story.
Kevin Love is having the best season of his career Author: Justin Rowan Publication: FeartheSword.com
It seems appropriate that after his historic night, we take a look at just how good Kevin Love has been this season for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs forward certainly is giving fans something to be thankful for this season, as his stats are up across the board. But if you dive deeper, you'll see that Love is currently playing the best basketball of his entire career.
The start of last season was thought to be the time where Love was going to be able to shine. With Kyrie Irving recovering from surgery, Love was going to have a chance to be a second option and get the touches to help maximize his enormous offensive talents.
It of course did not materialize that way. After a strong November of 19.9 points and 11.8 rebounds per game, Love's numbers nose dived in December; recording just 12.7 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. While it's possible that Love may have his numbers drop off in the future, the team is organically getting him touches within the flow of the offense, even with Irving having a career year offensively. – CLICK HERE to read full story.
A one-play microcosm of what makes the Cavaliers so hard to guard Author: Carter Rodriguez Publication: FeartheSword.com
It's hardly groundbreaking to make the claim that the Cavaliers offense is exceptionally hard to guard. Just ask the Blazers, who gave up 46 points in the first quarter to the Cavaliers on Wednesday night at the Q.
Amidst Kevin Love's 34-point explosion, the Cavaliers had an offensive possession that was striking in how unfair it was to an opposing defense to try to guard. Let's take a look.
The Cavaliers open this set with a Kyrie Irving-LeBron James pick and roll, and the Blazers are probably dead in the water the second they decide to switch the action. LeBron can bend the entire defense to him once he gets the ball in the post with Lillard on his hip, but it's not as though the Blazers had a particularly palatable option. – CLICK HERE to read full story.
Kevin Love, he of the 34-point quarter, does not regret his five-year deal Author: Kelly Dwyer Publication: Yahoo Sports
Kevin Love has the sort of security, technically, that LeBron James (signed through 2019) just wouldn't understand. Kevin Durant (signed through 2018, but really 2017) wouldn't either, nor would his Golden State teammate Stephen Curry (2017).
Kevin Love is signed to a five-year deal to work for the Cleveland Cavaliers, through 2020. Love declined the chance to milk the NBA's newest television deal and take advantage of the structural advantages that signing shorter contracts (for basketball and/or business reasons) provide in spades.
No, Love (who set the league on fire, briefly, in hitting for 34 first quarter points against the Trail Blazers on Wednesday night) made a point to sign the longest deal he could after hitting free agency in the summer of 2015 after coming off of a major shoulder injury. And though it may cost him chunks of millions as the years move along, he appears to be just fine with his choice to commit.
