Drought over, doubt over: Does Cavaliers’ victory mean more optimism and less dread when it comes to Cleveland sports? Author: Zack Meisel Publication: Cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The “Kiss Cam” reached its conclusion and there was LeBron James, pressing his lips against the shiny, gold Larry O’Brien trophy.

Fans at Progressive Field cheered. Then they cheered some more. In fact, they haven’t ceased the cheering.

The positive energy in Cleveland is palpable. Fans young and old flooded the streets of downtown after the Cavaliers’ Game 7 triumph. More than 1 million lined the sidewalks to watch the parade and celebration rally. Streams of fans continue to flock to the Cavaliers’ team shop and to the countless local T-shirt companies, which can’t print new championship designs fast enough. – CLICK HERE to read full story.

LeBron James set to become free agent, weighs contract options with Cavs Author: Jason Lloyd Publication: Akron Beacon Journal

LeBron James will become a free agent on July 1, but is expected to return to the Cavaliers. The only question is the type of contract he signs.

James had until Wednesday at midnight to pick up the option year on his contract for next season, but as expected, he will instead become a free agent, according to multiple reports. That’s only to maximize his earning power, since he made it clear during the Cavs’ parade last week that he wants to remain in Cleveland.

James can sign his patented one-year deal with a player option for another season and earn about $27.5 million next season, or he can sign a two-year deal using Early Bird rights and make about $64 million over the next two years. The maximum James can sign for this summer is four years and about $138 million, but he could be sacrificing millions under a long-term deal due to an exploding salary cap and the potential for a new collective bargaining agreement. – CLICK HERE to read full story.

LeBron James will be a free agent on July 1, but he intends to re-sign with Cleveland Cavaliers Author: Jeff Schudel Publication: The News-Herald

LeBron James is set to become a free agent on July 1, but Cavaliers fans should not fret. He has no plans to take his talent anywhere else.

James, as expected, has decided to decline his 2016-17 player option — the third straight season he has exercised this tactical move. He is turning down $24 million, but will make $27.5 million when he re-signs. He could make $31 million by signing with a different team.

This is completely different than six years ago, when James stunned the Cavaliers by announcing he was leaving to play for the Miami Heat. He could change his mind and play for another team next season, but during the championship parade last week, with 1.3 million people in downtown Cleveland to cheer the Cavs winning the NBA title, James told ESPN he fully intends to re-sign with the Cavaliers. – CLICK HERE to read full story.
