Cavs purchase second-round pick from Atlanta Hawks, select Oakland point guard Kay Felder Author: Chris Fedor Publication: Cleveland.com
CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Cavaliers entered the 2016 NBA Draft without a selection, but purchased a second-round pick from the Atlanta Hawks, acquiring the draft rights to Oakland University point guard Kay Felder at No. 54 overall.
“We are excited to welcome Kay Felder to the Cavs’ family,” General Manager David Griffin said. “Kay is a dynamic playmaker, and most importantly, the type of person and competitor that we want to add to our locker room.”
Felder, 5-foot-9, led the nation in assists, dishing out 9.3 per game, and was fourth in scoring, averaging 24.4 points. He was the only player in the country to rank in the Top 5 in both categories this past season. – CLICK HERE to read full story.
Tyronn Lue receives call from President Barack Obama, gets invite to bring Cavaliers to White House (video) Author: Chris Fedor Publication: Cleveland.com
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Tyronn Lue’s dream week got even better on Thursday afternoon when he received a phone call from President Barack Obama, congratulating the Cavs head coach on winning the 2016 NBA championship and praising the team for tireless work and relentless determination.
“Really great job,” Obama told Lue during a phone call that lasted nearly four minutes inside Cleveland Clinic Courts. A video of the call was posted to the Cavs Twitter account. “You should be proud of yourself. You did a great job on this and I really do think you brought cohesion, steadiness and a focus to the team. It really showed itself. You should feel good about what you did. Pretty good for a first year coach.”
Since beating the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals on Sunday night, Lue has received plenty of congratulatory calls and texts, one came from his mentor Doc Rivers who told Lue he cried when his protege led a historic comeback. – CLICK HERE to read full story.
LeBron James: ‘It took a kid from Akron’ to end Cleveland’s title drought Author: Joe Vardon Publication: Cleveland.com
AKRON, Ohio – There was one more NBA champions celebration for LeBron James, and maybe this one was the most sentimental.
A crowd of about 24,000 gathered at Akron’s Lock 3 outdoor concert venue to cheer James, who led the Cavaliers to their first title Sunday. He was hoarse from the week-long celebration of Sunday’s Game 7 triumph, appeared to grow emotional and dropped the mic when he left after speaking for about four minutes.
Fireworks lit up the sky when James left the stage.
James, of course, was born not far from Lock 3 in downtown at Akron City Hospital, some 31 years ago. He didn’t need to win one for the Cavs for him to return home a champion. – CLICK HERE to read full story.
