Cavs GM David Griffin is ‘very confident’ that team will get a deal done with free agent J.R. Smith Author: Chris Fedor Publication: Cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio — For the second straight summer, free agent J.R. Smith has been forced to wait patiently for a new contract while other players around the league ink huge deals.

Despite not yet having a pact in place, Cleveland Cavaliers General Manager David Griffin is optimistic that the two sides will soon get something done and Smith will return for the team’s title defense.

“I think the good news is J.R. wants to be here and we want J.R. back,” Griffin said on ESPN during the broadcast of the Cavaliers’ Summer League win against the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night. “These things sometimes take time and he has representatives that want him to be with us as well. When the time is right something will get done. I’m very confident about that.” – CLICK HERE to read full story.

LeBron James, Cavs get together for more partying at ESPYs Author: Joe Vardon Publication: Cleveland.com

LOS ANGELES – When the Cavs get together anymore, be it at home or in California, they seem to own the night.

It was so on Wednesday at the ESPYS, an Oscars-like, annual awards show for sports in Los Angeles, where LeBron James and the Cavs won seven of the eight awards for which they were nominated, thanks to their stunning upset of the Golden State Warriors in the Finals.

James won best male athlete for 2016, having led the Cavs back from the largest deficit in NBA Finals history to beat the Warriors in seven games. The team won three awards – for the year’s best game, the 93-89 win in Oakland Calif., in Game 7, for breaking the city of Cleveland’s 52-year championship drought, and for being the best team in 2016. – CLICK HERE to read full story.
