LeBron James 11th richest celebrity in 2016, Forbes says Author: Joe Vardon Publication: Cleveland.com
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Forget the Warriors, LeBron James has a ton of work to do if he wants to catch Taylor Swift.
James was named the 11th highest-earning celebrity for 2016 by Forbes on Monday with $77 million in income — $6 million higher than a January Forbes valuation but a cool $93 million behind pop star Swift.
Forbes named Swift no. 1 at $170 million, followed musical group One Direction ($110 million) and author James Patterson ($110 million). Soccer stars Cristiano Ronaldo (No. 4, $88 million) and Lionel Messi (No. 8, $81.5 million) were the only athletes ahead of James on Forbes’ list. – CLICK HERE to read full story.
No Cleveland Cavaliers’ ring for Anderson Varejao: Bill Livingston Author: Bill Livingston Publication: Cleveland.com
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The veteran forward was used to coming off the bench and giving his team a spark. For years, he drove a van with a big spare tire on the back that read “Sixth Man.”
By the time he was 35, he knew the tank was low on gas. He played 57 games with what he thought was his last employer, checking out of his hotel room and closing out his bank account near the end of the season when injury elsewhere created a critical need for a veteran who played his position.
“By then, I was semi-retired. Bill Sharman (then a Los Angeles Lakers’ executive) called and said they needed me for the playoffs. I said I had clothes for today and clothes for tomorrow morning with me,” said Steve Mix, the greatest player in University of Toledo history, recalling the spring of 1983. – CLICK HERE to read full story.
NBA Summer League 2016: Cavs beat Wolves 99-68 for first win in Vegas Author: Ryan Mourton Publication: Fear the Sword
The Cavs finally taste sweet Vegas victory.
The Cavaliers ended their drought in the desert with a 99-68 win over the similarly winless Minnesota Timberwolves.
Kay Felder continues to give the Cavs something to think about as far as their rotation this year, displaying strong decision making, a tight handle, and quick first step that have all been staples of his summer so far. The litmus test for Summer League isn’t as much the counting stats — though another low turnover game with only one does mean a little bit — it’s “Does this player stand out among summer talents?” and Felder does. It will be interesting to see how he fares when competition ramps up, but he is an NBA player. Where he falls in a rotation will be the next step. – CLICK HERE to read full story.
