Anderson Varejao says ‘thank you’ to the city of Cleveland Author: Chris Haynes Publication: Cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Northeast Ohio and the Cleveland Cavaliers meant the world to Anderson Varejao. He spent all 12 years playing with one organization, one fan base that he loved.

A day after being traded to Portland and then subsequently waived, Varejao took time out to write a heartfelt letter to Cleveland and the surrounding areas to express his appreciation for always supporting “The Wild Thing.”

Here’s his “thank you” letter.

Dear Cavs Fans Everywhere,

For the last 12 years, I have had the honor of representing the city of Cleveland and the Cavaliers organization, and for that I will forever be grateful. Coming over from Spain at the young age of 21 was not easy, but as soon as I put on a Cavs jersey and stepped on the court, I felt at home.

There were seasons we played well together, and there were seasons we struggled together. We had playoff runs, and we had championship runs. Over the last 12 seasons we have had many ups and downs, but no matter the product on the court one thing never changed… The unwavering support from all of you, the fans. – CLICK HERE to read full story.

Saying goodbye to the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Wild Thing (photos) Author: Bill Livingston Publication: Cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Anderson Varejao bounced around the basketball court, his arms flailing, his hair flopping, emphasizing the contact from the charges he drew. He played with all the joy of his native Brazil, dancing a basketball samba with his feet

Wild Thing

A song called “Wild Thing” — covered in 1966 by an English band called the Troggs, appropriated by fictitious Indians closer Ricky Vaughn in the movie “Major League” and then by Phillies closer Mitch Williams in real-life — bawled in the background, affirming that the Thing made everything “groovy. – CLICK HERE to read full story.

Tyronn Lue envisioning Channing Frye as a sharpshooter with LeBron James, Kevin Love on the court Author: Joe Vardon Publication: Cleveland.com

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio – New Cavaliers big man Channing Frye watched but did not participate in practice Friday, though coach Tyronn Lue made it sound like he still plans to use him Sunday against Oklahoma City.

Frye, who was acquired Thursday from Orlando in a trade for Jared Cunningham and a draft pick, is 6-11 and was averaging 5.2 points for the Magic. He was not made available to speak with reporters.

Cleveland traded Anderson Varejao to Portland to create the salary relief and get the draft pick used to acquire Frye.

The key for Frye and his appeal to the Cavs was his 39.7 percent shooting from 3-point range, and on Friday Lue said he envisions how that will mix with LeBron James and Kevin Love on the floor with him. – CLICK HERE to read full story.
