How Tyronn Lue can coach LeBron James based on his history with Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan Author: Joe Vardon Publication: Cleveland.com
INDEPENDENCE, Ohio – LeBron James has the “best basketball IQ of the guys I’ve been around,” Cavs coach Tyronn Lue said on Tuesday.
That includes Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, who’ll be here Wednesday for his final game at The Q when the Lakers play the Cavs at 8 p.m.
“Their will to win and the way they got on guys … they would fight a guy if they had to, they would cuss a guy out,” Lue said, comparing James to Jordan and Bryant. “LeBron, just his IQ because he can play 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. And he knows every position on the floor. At all times you can call it, it’s not like, ‘I’m thinking about it,’ he knows it right away. That’s really important.” – CLICK HERE to read full story.
Tyronn Lue’s story of Kobe Bryant wanting to fight in practice highlights Bryant’s competitive nature, also seen in LeBron James Author: Chris Fedor Publication: Cleveland.com
INDEPENDENCE, Ohio — Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue was in his second NBA season with the Los Angeles Lakers when a normal practice turned into his most unforgettable Kobe Bryant story, the one that stands out in a collection of thousands.
“We’re playing five-on-five one day and it was the gold team against the white team,” Lue said on Tuesday. “It was myself, Devean George, Brian Shaw, Mark Madsen and I want to say Slava Medvedenko, playing against the first unit — against Fish (Derek Fisher), Kob, Shaq (Shaquille O’Neal).
“Long story short is, it was a game point and (Bryant) drove baseline and I was at the elbow. He drove baseline and I went down the lane and I pinned his dunk against the glass. He tried to dunk it and I blocked it against the glass. We came down, Devean George made a layup for game and Brian Shaw went, ‘Ahhh, he blocked you!’ He went crazy. Kobe wanted to fight me at first and then, second, he wanted to play one-on-one after practice.” – CLICK HERE to read full story.
Pau Gasol, not Kevin Love, chosen to replace Jimmy Butler in 2016 All-Star Game Author: Chris Fedor Publication: Cleveland.com
INDEPENDENCE, Ohio — When Chicago Bulls swingman and Eastern Conference All-Star Jimmy Butler injured his knee, the Cleveland Cavaliers were hoping that would pave the way for Kevin Love to claim a spot on this year’s All-Star squad.
But Love, who the Cavs feel should have been boosted by the team’s first-place record, has been snubbed for a second time.
With Butler sidelined for three to four weeks with a strained knee, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver chose Butler’s Chicago teammate, Pau Gasol, as the replacement in Sunday’s All-Star Game, which will be held in Toronto. – CLICK HERE to read full story.
