Kyrie Irving’s late heroics help Cleveland Cavaliers squeak past Phoenix, 101-97 Author: Chris Haynes Publication: Cleveland.com

PHOENIX – With an old friend making big shots late, the Cleveland Cavaliers broke a two-game losing streak in beating the drama-filled Phoenix Suns 101-97 Monday at Talking Stick Resort Arena.

Kyrie Irving’s best game since his return was capped by a huge 3-pointer at the shot-clock buzzer to put the Cavaliers up four with 21 seconds remaining. Coupled with a banked floater and two free throws in a seven-point final minute, he finished with a game-high 22 points in 24 minutes for the Cavaliers (20-9).

Kevin Love supplied 16 points and seven boards while LeBron James registered 14 points, four rebounds and seven assists. After scoring his fifth point, James Alex English (25,613) for 17th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. – CLICK HERE to read full story.

LeBron James climbs two NBA career lists and Cavaliers avoid disaster: Joe Vardon’s instant analysis Author: Joe Vardon Publication: Cleveland.com

PHOENIX – LeBron James moved up on two NBA all-time lists and the Cavaliers moved on from what could’ve been a disaster in the desert.

James is 17th in NBA history in scoring and 22nd in assists, thanks to his 14 points and seven dimes in the Cavs’ 101-97 win over the Phoenix Suns on Monday night, snapping a two-game skid and doing so against a team in total disarray.

Over the weekend, the Suns lost to the 76ers, fired two assistant coaches, and saw their best player (Eric Bledsoe) go down with a torn meniscus. After being blown out Saturday by the Blazers and with grumblings coming from James and others about coach David Blatt’s lineups, a loss to Phoenix under the Suns’ aforementioned set of circumstances would’ve been ill timed, to say the least. – CLICK HERE to read full story.

Kyrie Irving morphs into ‘Mr. Fourth Quarter’ and Timofey Mozgov moves to the bench: Fedor’s five observations Author: Chris Fedor Publication: Cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Cavaliers’ four-game road trip through the Western Conference was off to a rocky start. With back-to-back losses, including one against lottery-bound Portland, the Cavs needed a win. Really, they needed something to get the positive vibes back after an emotional loss on Christmas Day against the Golden State Warriors.

Monday night against Phoenix wasn’t pretty, and it was much closer than it should have been against a shorthanded Suns’ squad playing without its best player. Phoenix had just lost to the two-win Philadelphia 76ers a few days earlier. That’s when a sloppy play, one that resembled the Cavs’ performance recently, helped them escape.

“Probably one of the ugliest possessions of my career right there, but it ended with a big three,” Kyrie Irving said referring to his go-ahead three-pointer in the 101-97 win. – CLICK HERE to read full story.
