Players To Watch: Oct. 29
DeAndre Jordan, C ($7,700)
Think DeAndre Jordan may have something to prove against the Mavericks tonight? After last summer’s free agency saga, it seems likely Jordan will be the focus of the Clippers’ offense as they attack the Mavericks’ weak frontcourt rotation of Zaza Pachulia ($5,400), Dirk Nowitzki ($6,200) and Dwight Powell ($3,500). The only worry with Jordan in this game is that it could turn into a blowout in the second half, which would limit his minutes.
Zaza Pachulia, C ($5,400)
Jordan’s matchup is another good play tonight because of the Mavericks’ lack of depth at center. JaVale McGee remains out with a left leg injury, leaving only Dwight Powell ($3,500) and rookie Salah Mejri ($3,500) behind Pachulia on the depth chart. Pachulia tallied 25 minutes in the Mavericks’ season opener with 10 points (2-10 FG, 6-6 FT), 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. Not bad for $5,400.
Kristaps Porzingis, PF ($4,800)
Porzingis was impressive in his NBA debut on Wednesday, tallying 25.5 FanDuel points via 16 points (3-11 FG, 9-12 FT), five rebounds, an assist, a steal, a block and two turnovers in 24 minutes. He faces a tougher defensive matchup tonight against All-Stars Paul Millsap ($7,700) and Al Horford ($7,300). But he should still receive plenty of looks in a Knicks’ offense that doesn’t have many playmakers outside of Carmelo Anthony ($9,400).
Courtney Lee, SG ($3,800)
It wasn’t a night to remember for the Grizzlies on Wednesday as the Cavs clobbered them 106-76 at home. Memphis went 2-for-16 from 3-point land and Courtney Lee (2-9 FG) was part of the problem. But those nine field goal attempts are promising for Lee and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he hits those looks tonight against Indiana (Lee shot 52.6 percent on 3-pointers in the preseason). Lee also added two rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block on Wednesday to salvage a respectable FanDuel output of 18.4 points in 31 minutes.
Lance Stephenson, SG ($3,500)
The Clippers’ starting small forward is an interesting, and risky, option if you’re looking for a bottom-of-the-barrel pick tonight. Stephenson tallied only seven points (3-5 FG), two rebounds, two assists and a steal in 19 minutes on Wednesday, with Paul Pierce ($4,400) doing most of the damage at small forward (12 points on 4-for-8 shooting and seven rebounds in 24 minutes). But a matchup against hobbled Wesley Matthews and the Mavericks tonight could spark a solid line from Stephenson. That may especially be true if the game turns into a blowout in the second half and he gets the green light to fire away with Pierce, Chris Paul ($9,800) and Blake Griffin ($9,900) resting on the bench.
