Boogie’s 56 points tied Oscar Robertson for second most in team history.
Despite the tough double-overtime loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Monday, DeMarcus Cousins has been on a tear.
The Kings All-Star big man is averaging 52 points and 12 rebounds over the past two games on 64 percent from the field. The 100-plus-point, 25-plus-rebound two-game span is the fourth since the NBA-ABA merger.
Monday at Sleep Train was especially impressive. The sixth-year big tallied a career-high 56 points on 21-of-30 from the field and 13-of-16 from the line.
He was unstoppable.
On a day in which he was named Western Conference Player of the Week, Cousins made sure the selection was warranted. No. 15’s point total topped the Sacramento-era record of 51 set by Kings legend Chris Webber in 2001 and the Sacramento arena record, set by Tony Delk (53) with Phoenix in that same year.
“You dream about games like that as a kid,” said Cousins following his huge performance.
In 12 games in January, DeMarcus has tallied eight games over 30 points and 10 rebounds – the next closest has two. He also leads the league in scoring (34.4) and rebounding (13.2) in the month.
Ultimately, Boogie is worried about the bigger picture though. When asked about his recent play, the Kings leader responded “I don’t really care, I’m trying to get a win.”
The Kings are 8-4 in the month and in the thick of the playoff hunt. If DeMarcus continues to play like a man possessed, the Kings and their fans could be boogying come late April.
Additionally, DeMarcus and Rajon Rondo became only the third set of teammates to record 50 points and 20 assists in the same game.
