Stat of the Day:Without Jerami Grant and Nik Stauskas, the two most experienced players on their summer league roster, the Sixers had more minutes to spread around in Tuesday’s 85-77 loss to Golden State. One of the beneficiaries was Christian Wood, another returning player. In a summer league-high 28 minutes, the rising second-year forward generated 22 points, the most for any Sixer since the start of last week’s Utah Jazz Summer League. Between then and Tuesday night, Wood has accounted for the team’s only two 20-point performances, having also posted an even 20 point effort against Boston on July 4th. Wood went eight for 12 from the field Tuesday, converting two of five three-point attempts. Through six summer league appearances, the UNLV product is averaging 15.8 points in just 17.7 minutes per game.Notable Quotable:The Sixers were unable to register a victory through the first three games on their Samsung NBA Summer League schedule. Now, beginning Wednesday, the exhibition will morph into a tournament-style format. Following the Sixers’ eight-point defeat to the Warriors Tuesday, Lloyd Pierce, the Sixers’ assistant in charge of the team in Las Vegas, spoke about the mindset he hopes to instill in his group, as it looks to stay alive in the competition.”I just told them [Wednesday’s] the third summer league for us. This one’s over with. We didn’t get any wins in the first three games. Now, it’s just win and keep playing. It’s new life. The guys that haven’t played will continue to play more, and we’re going to need everyone to contribute. If we can sneak out a win tomorrow, and get us some confidence and we can keep pressing it day by day.” Did You See That?:Ben Simmons tallied eight points, eight rebounds, and six assists Tuesday versus Golden State. The 2016 number one pick converted three of his eight shot attempts; however, he did deliver one of the game’s top plays — a punishing attack on the rim midway through the first quarter.Oh my. #SummerSixers https://t.co/VVR3lUmdDr— Philadelphia 76ers (@Sixers) July 13, 2016 #SummerSixers Sounds:Tuesday at Thomas & Mack Center, ESPN.com writer Ethan Sherwood Strauss and 97.5 FM The Fanatic Morning Show hosts Anthony Gargano and Jon Marks stopped by the Sixers Summer League Stream courtside location to chat about the game, and the state of the team.<br>Around Town:In the closest and perhaps most dramatic contest held Tuesday on the campus of the University of Nevada – Las Vegas, Portland needed two extra stanzas to fend off Utah. The Trail Blazers let a four-point lead slip away with less than 45 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, then watched Jazz forward Trey Lyles deposit an equalizing putback as time expired in the first overtime. Per summer league regulations, any game that goes to a second overtime is decided by sudden death. Twenty seconds into overtime number two, Notre Dame’s Pat Connaughton swished home a three-pointer to send Portland to its first victory in Las Vegas, 92-89.On Tap:Sixteen of the 24 teams in the Samsung NBA Summer League field step into tournament play Wednesday.
