With the champion Warriors’ historic 19-0 start, the NBA is buzzing from the Bay Area and beyond, including four-time champion Horace Grant. The former All-Star started on the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, who went an NBA-record 72-10. How does a fellow champion experience history on a nightly basis? Let’s find out!
Q. It’s been said, when you’re on a winning streak that you don’t think about it. Is that true?
A. Yes. It’s like the old cliche, ‘you take it one game at a time.’ You go out there, see your opponent, and visualize beating your opponent.
Don’t worry about the 33 games or anything like that, and that’s what they’re doing.
Q. What’s the difference between these Warriors and your great Bulls teams?
A. They have a great bench, and we had a very strong bench in Chicago. Their mentality is confident and they feel like their unbeatable — not cocky, but just confident.
Q. What’s it like when you feel like no one can beat you?
A. It’s right up there with winning championships. You walk on the floor, you feel that even if you’re down 10-12 points with four minutes left, that you still have a chance because of your chemistry.
Q. How key is it to have leaders like Michael Jordan and Stephen Curry?
A. MJ is one of the best leaders I’ve ever played with. Then you have Steph Curry, who has the same exact mentality. He’s leading that team to win. Even if he doesn’t have a good shooting night, he still has that bench, just like we had in Chicago.
