The 6ers were up by one at half time 50-49 and even outscored the Cavs by two in the fourth but Cleveland’s strong third quarter gave them the edge in the game. Both teams shot well at just over 50 percent but Cleveland had the upper hand going plus seven on the glass and plus six in the team assists column.
Phili’s young core did show some promise on Friday night as four of the youngsters scored 14 or more points. Jahlil Okafor had a good game putting up 18 points on 8-17 shooting; he also added six rebounds and three assists. Nerlens Noel partnered with Okafor to lead their team and scored 18 points of his own; along with 12 rebounds and a big five steals. Nik Stauskas contributed 14 points on 6-10 shooting as a starter. Stauskas must be grateful to have two such strong big men to kick him the ball for good open looks. Off the bench Isaiah Canaan dropped 14 points on 5-8 shooting, along with four assists. Philadelphia shot an impressive 10-23 from three point land in the game and should hold their heads high after their effort Friday night.
For the Cavs, it was business as usual with LeBron James leading the way with 31 points on 12-22 shooting and 3-5 from deep. James had a double-double with a generous 13 assists as he made sure his teammates got involved. The Cavs had balanced scoring with five other players scoring in double digits. Mo Williams went 8-12 from the field scoring 16 points; he also dished eight assists. Richard Jefferson turned back the clock with his 17 points on 7-11 shooting, while Kevin Love scored 12, along with 14 rebounds. Love did however have a sloppy five turnovers. Tristan Thompson did not have a huge game but his 11 rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench did make a big difference for the Cavs in this win.
Next up Phili hosts Orlando Saturday night, while the Cavs have a day of rest and get back in action on Sunday at home, versus Indiana.
