Cavs Host Chinese New Year Celebration presented by ZTE

The Cleveland Cavaliers will celebrate one of the NBA’s largest global markets as the team prepares to host its first Chinese New Year Celebration presented by ZTE (smartphone partner of the Cavaliers) on February 8th at the Cavs vs. Sacramento Kings game at 7:00 p.m. at The Q. The special theme night is a reflection of the team’s worldwide appeal and is part of a league-wide initiative to recognize its largest international fan base. The game will be broadcast on NBA League Pass and CCTV in China, and locally on FOX Sports Ohio.

In China, the NBA is the most watched professional sport and basketball is played by over 300 million people across the country, according to the NBA. The Cavs specifically have one of the largest subscriber bases in the league on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo with over 1.4 million followers. Through Weibo, Cavs fans in China can stay up-to-date with the latest team news and information in their native language, Mandarin.

The Chinese New Year is a traditional celebration of the Lunar New Year and is observed as a time for family and friends to be together. It marks the first month and day of the Chinese lunar calendar which falls on February 8th this year.

All fans in attendance will receive a Cavs Chinese New Year t-shirt presented by ZTE. Cavs fans will enjoy special game presentation elements that will reflect the history and culture of a country that is home to so many passionate NBA fans.
