The Cavs are coming off of a 114-107 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night. In the victory, the Cavaliers scored 21 points off of 11 Minnesota turnovers and had a 20-8 advantage in second change points. Cleveland also knocked down 11 three-pointers against the Timberwolves and is averaging 10.0 triples a game, which is 5th-most in the NBA. Furthermore, in their last four games against Phoenix, the Cavs are averaging 12.5 three-pointers per game.
In Monday’s win, the Cavs held Minnesota to shooting 4-16 (.250) from the three-point line. The Wine and Gold have held their opponents to shooting under .300 from deep 17 times this season (14-3 record).
Tristan Thompson recorded his 11th double-double of the season Monday night, finishing with a season-high 19 points on (.800) shooting, a game-high 12 rebounds (seven offensive) and two assists in 34 minutes. In Thompson’s first meeting against the Suns, he pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds (four offensive).
LeBron James poured in a game-high 25 points on 11-15 (.733) shooting, four rebounds, a team-high nine assists, one steal and one block in 38 minutes against Minnesota on Monday. In a 101-97 win against the Phoenix Suns on December 28, James tallied 14 points, four rebounds, seven assists, two steals and one block in 35 minutes.
James, Thompson and the rest of the Wine and Gold will look to keep their momentum going and duplicate their first performance against a Suns team that enters Wednesday’s matchup on the second game of a back-to-back.
Phoenix (14-31) will be traveling into Cleveland after having played on Tuesday night, a 113-103 loss to the Sixers in Philadelphia.
The Suns have lost seven of their last eight games with their lone win coming against the Atlanta Hawks, 98-95, this past Saturday in Arizona.
