The Chicago Bulls used a balanced offense and stiff defense to wear down the Dallas Mavericks, 86-73, in the second round of the Las Vegas Summer League tournament Thursday at Thomas and Mack Center.
The second-seeded Bulls won every quarter, leading by as many as 14 points on 47.8 percent shooting from the field.
Bobby Portis scored a game-high 19 points on 9-for-13 shooting and Cristiano Felicio totaled 15 points, eight boards, three assists and a steal. Jerian Grant added 13 points and Denzel Valentine finished with 11.
Chicago held No. 15 Dallas to 37.5 percent shooting from the field, forced 16 turnovers and had 11 steals.
Justin Anderson led the Mavericks with 17 points and Jonathan Gibson added 14 points, but the guards shot just 9-for-26 from the floor. No other Mavericks scored in double figures, though Vander Blue and McKenzie Moore each finished with nine points off the bench.
The Bulls advance to Saturday’s quarterfinals where they will play the Washington Wizards. The Mavericks play the Golden State Warriors in a consolation game Friday.
