LAS VEGAS – The NBA D-League Select squad defeated the Milwaukee Bucks, 91-86, in Sunday’s Las Vegas Summer League matchup.
The Bucks are now 1-1 in Las Vegas even though they seemed to be in control the majority of Sunday’s game, holding a 11-point lead at one point. Milwaukee dominated the boards in the loss, hauling in 48 total rebounds compared to the Select’s 30. The Select shot more consistently throughout the game, especially behind the arc, hitting 36.4 percent of those tries compared to Milwaukee’s 28 percent.
Even in the loss, first-round pick Thon Maker remained the talk of the Bucks’ summer league. Maker racked up 17 points (7-15 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-4 FT), 17 rebounds, and two blocks in just under 33 minutes. It was the second straight double-double for 19-year-old, who posted 15 points and 13 rebounds in Friday’s summer league opener against the Cavaliers.
Not to be outdone, second-year guard Rashad Vaughn added a game-high 24 points (10-18 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 1-1 FT) for the Bucks to go with six rebounds, four assists in 31 minutes. Meanwhile, Jabril Trawick led the Select team in scoring with 15 points (3-4 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 8-10 FT) while adding five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks in 27 minutes.
Both teams will continue play in the Las Vegas Summer League on Monday. The Bucks will face the Grizzlies, while the D-League squad takes on the Rockets.
