The Milwaukee Bucks announced today they will welcome four student interns from Cristo Rey Jesuit High School as a part of the school’s Corporate Work Study Program. In addition to the Bucks, the team also enlisted some of its arena development partners to participate, including Mortenson Construction, JP Cullen and Coakley Brothers Movers. All four organizations will bring on students this upcoming school year to work across various departments and provide hands on, professional work experience.
“Today’s announcement is another reflection of our ongoing commitment to being better community partners and making a difference in the lives of youth around the state of Wisconsin,” Bucks President Peter Feigin said. “A career in professional sports is by no means limited to being a standout performer on the court. We are thrilled to give these talented students exposure to the business side of Bucks basketball and the opportunity to learn from and network with leaders from the Bucks and our fantastic development and community partners who have answered the call to join us in this important initiative.”
Students enrolled in the Corporate Work Study Program participate in job-sharing teams of four. The students joining the Bucks front office are sophomores Luis Nolasco and Jazmin Ramirez, and freshmen McKenzie Billups and Maya Saavedra. Each student will work one full day per week in lieu of attending their regular classes, with the four students rotating for the fifth weekday. The four new Bucks interns will spend time in the community relations, human resources, legal and finance departments.
Now in its second year, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School’s Corporate Work Study Program delivers many educational benefits for its students. Partnering with area businesses has provided students a platform to create positive relationships in the business and professional communities, build upon their existing skillset, acquire valuable job experience and marketable skills, gain exposure to a wide range of career opportunities, instill a strong work ethic, and increase their self-esteem.
