Bobby Portis: Doesn’t impress in Saturday’s start

It was a tough night for Portis, who not only delivered an underwhelming stat line, but saw his main competitors for the starting role at power forward, Taj Gibson and Nikola Mirotic, turn in their best outings of the preseason. Gibson, who looks like the frontrunner in the competition thus far, scored 20 points on a perfect 9-for-9 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line, while Mirotic went for 18 points and nine boards while hitting four three-pointers. Portis will need to build some momentum in the remaining preseason games if he hopes to hold down a significant role in the frontcourt rotation when the regular season kicks off.
