Simmons underwent surgery back on Oct. 4 to address an acute Jones fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot and remains without a definitive return timetable. There’s a real possibility that Simmons won’t play at all as a rookie given the importance of his long-term health to the franchise, and if he does return, it likely won’t be until the calendar flips to 2017.
